Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

Birdman is directed by Alejandro G. Inarritu and stars Michael Keaton, Zach Galfianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, and Naomi Watts.

The story follows Riggan Thomson (Keaton), a washed-up Hollywood actor who once played the iconic superhero Birdman, as he struggles to produce a Broadway stage production of Raymond Carter's short story, 'What We Talk About When We Talk About Love.' Riggan risks everything for this production and faces harsh critics, his estranged daughter (Stone), his alter-ego, Birdman, and a difficult method acting stage star (Norton).

What's unique about this film is that the style that Inarritu made it was to be filmed in a single shot, and with some good editing effects, the film succeeded. The cinematography in the film was excellent as well. The performances are excellent. Keaton, Stone, and Norton give some of the best performances I've seen from them.

Birdman is a masterpiece in filmmaking. With great performances all around from Keaton, Norton, and Stone, and with some great direction from Inarritu, it's no wonder the film got so much critical attention.

5/5
