Django Unchained

Django Unchained

Django Unchained tells the tale of a slave named Django (Jamie Foxx) who gets picked up by Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), a dentist turned bounty hunter, who is looking for a gang. He enlists Django as a bounty hunter to take down the gang and rescue his wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington) from a vicious plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio).

Faced with hardships, he endures racism from whites and fights back with guns and bullets. He does an awesome job. Christoph Waltz does a excellent job playing Schultz, a German bounty hunter with a lot of funny dialogue. He puts on a character with his performance. Leonardo DiCaprio shows he is a villainous man, portraying Candie, who enjoys watching black slaves fight to the death. He tortures the slaves and is very evil. Kerry Washington does some good work playing Django's wife, who was separated from him as they both were auctioned to different slave owners.

The film looks and feels like a spaghetti western, as the film is very low budget film making and with the Good, Bad, and the Ugly style music playing. The script is very well done. I love the dark comedy aspect to the script. While the violence is outrageous, it manages to have a little comedy.

The cinematography is great, as the images in the film are quite beautiful. The film overall, is very good, despite there being a bit too much violence and a very heavy theme on slavery. I enjoyed it overall.
