Iron Man 3

http://www.empowernetwork.com/rdparker/files/2013/05/Iron-Man-3.jpgThe latest superhero action film Iron Man 3 kicks off the summer movie season with full force.

Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role as the playboy billionaire Tony Stark, who has a dayjob saving people as Iron Man. But in this film, he faces anxiety problems due to the rise of a new villian, the mandarin (Ben Kingsley) who has been causing terror in the Middle East. He has also faced problems with his girlfriend Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and is wondering if its worth being Iron Man anymore.

Going into this film, I was expecting another superhero film from Marvel, like The Avengers. Instead what I got was a very dark superhero film, with the plot focusing on Tony Stark rather than Iron Man. That is where the genius acting from Downey Jr. comes. He gives a great performance as Stark. Ben Kingsley is very good as the villain, The film takes on a surprising twist, without giving it away, which might upset fans of Iron Man. Paltrow does good work as Pepper, who constantly argues with Tony.

The storyline is really good, sort of like a ''Dark Knight Rises'' feel, with Stark not wanting to be Iron Man anymore. Shane Black focuses the film on Stark, who cannot sleep with the Mandarin causing trouble. Overall, Iron Man 3 is an entertaining superhero film, with some great acting and storyline. I kinda wanted it to be shorter, but I was satisfied with the ending. Great ending to the Iron Man trilogy.

Django Unchained

Django Unchained

Django Unchained tells the tale of a slave named Django (Jamie Foxx) who gets picked up by Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), a dentist turned bounty hunter, who is looking for a gang. He enlists Django as a bounty hunter to take down the gang and rescue his wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington) from a vicious plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio).

http://pandodaily.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/leonardo-dicaprio-django-unchained.jpgThe acting in this film is great. We get a very good performance from Jamie Foxx as Django. Faced with hardships, he endures racism from whites and fights back with guns and bullets. He does an awesome job. Christoph Waltz does a excellent job playing Schultz, a German bounty hunter with a lot of funny dialogue. He puts on a character with his performance. Leonardo DiCaprio shows he is a villainous man, portraying Candie, who enjoys watching black slaves fight to the death. He tortures the slaves and is very evil. Kerry Washington does some good work playing Django's wife, who was separated from him as they both were auctioned to different slave owners.

The film looks and feels like a spaghetti western, as the film is very low budget film making and with the Good, Bad, and the Ugly style music playing. The script is very well done. I love the dark comedy aspect to the script. While the violence is outrageous, it manages to have a little comedy.

The cinematography is great, as the images in the film are quite beautiful. The film overall, is very good, despite there being a bit too much violence and a very heavy theme on slavery. I enjoyed it overall.
